DSA Roadmap for Campus Placements: 6 Month Study Plan
A 6 month DSA roadmap for campus placements — topics in order, weekly goals, and how to balance DSA with aptitude and projects.
Most students waste months on random problems. This roadmap sequences DSA so interview topics come before the placement season.
Months 1–2: foundations
Arrays, strings, and hash maps first — they appear in every OA and interview. Practice pattern problems: two pointers, sliding window, frequency counting, prefix sums. Aim for 2 problems daily, timed at 20–30 minutes.
Do not skip the fundamentals for advanced topics — OAs at TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and most service companies stay in this range.
Months 3–4: core interview topics
Move to sorting and searching, binary search on answers, recursion and backtracking, then trees and graphs (BFS/DFS, traversals, connected components). Add stacks and queues with the classic problems.
For product companies (Amazon, Flipkart, Zomato), this is the most important block — medium problems in these topics cover most OAs and interviews.
Months 5–6: DP, greedy, and revision
Dynamic programming with memoization — Fibonacci, grid paths, knapsack-light, subarray problems — then greedy patterns and interval problems. This is the SP/DSE and product-company differentiator.
Reserve the last month for revision and timed simulations: full OA-length practice with company PYQs, plus a pattern log that lists every pattern you met and your weak ones.
The weekly balance
DSA 4 days, aptitude and reasoning 1 day, projects and resume 1 day, mock tests 1 day. Consistent blocks beat weekend marathons — retention and pattern recall both come from spacing.
