Mock Interview
How to Prepare for a Mock Interview at Home (Free Guide)
Prepare for a mock interview at home — realistic setup, question selection, recording, and review routines that work for Indian freshers.
You can build a surprisingly realistic interview room at home — here is the setup, question plan, and review loop before your first session.
Set up a real interview room
Use a desk with a laptop at eye level, good lighting from the front, and no background noise. Put your phone on silent and keep water nearby. If your real interview will be on Google Meet or Zoom, practice on the same kind of tool so the camera framing feels normal.
Keep a notepad and pen for notes and pseudo-code, and close everything except the interview window. Removing distractions from the start builds the same focus you will need on the day.
Prepare questions, not scripts
Collect 15–20 questions from your target company: HR questions, fundamentals from your resume, and 2–3 coding problems for technical rounds. Write brief bullet points for each — never a full script, or you will sound rehearsed.
For fresher rounds, prioritize questions tied to your projects. Interviewers probe what you wrote on your resume more than generic theory.
Practice with time pressure
Time every answer: 45–60 seconds for short answers, 2 minutes for STAR stories, and 20–30 minutes for coding problems. Real interviews feel shorter than they are; practicing with a visible timer builds pace.
In coding practice, speak while you think. Say the constraints, propose a brute force, then optimize — this verbal reasoning is exactly what panels evaluate.
Record, review, repeat
Record your sessions and review them once. Watch for rambling, filler words, missing structure, and answers that do not match the question. Fix one issue per session rather than trying to fix everything.
Apply's AI mock interview gives scored feedback after every session, so you can run the loop — practice, review, fix, repeat — without needing a human partner at home.
