For product companies (Amazon, Microsoft, Google): Strong projects with impact metrics, advanced DSA skills, system design basics, GitHub profile with contributions. Complex and achievement-focused.
For startups: Relevant tech stack (React, Node.js, Python), side projects, GitHub activity, ability to learn fast. Agile and adaptable.
All recruiters: One page, clean formatting, no typos, ATS-friendly, honest claims you can defend in an interview.

How to write engineering projects on your resume
Project name: Use a descriptive name, not 'Project 1'. 'Fintech Stock Dashboard' is better than 'Web App Project'.
Tech stack: List every technology used — this is what recruiters scan for. 'React, Node.js, MongoDB, Chart.js, Vercel'.
Description: 1-2 lines explaining what the project does. 'A real-time stock screener that displays NSE prices with interactive charts.'
Your role: What YOU did, not the team. 'Designed REST API, implemented JWT auth, deployed on Vercel.'
Impact: Numbers make it credible. 'Handled 10,000+ API calls/day. Reduced page load by 40% with lazy loading.'
GitHub link: Make sure the repo is public with a good README. Recruiters DO check GitHub.
Company-specific resume tips for engineering students
TCS resume: Simple format. CGPA 7+ is safe. List Java/C/SQL skills. 1-2 simple projects. Keep it basic — TCS values consistency over complexity.
Infosys resume: Similar to TCS but slightly more technical. For SP/DSE roles: advanced DSA, harder projects, system design basics. Check Infosys resume format on Apply /prepare.
Amazon resume: Impact-focused. Use metrics (X% improvement, Y users served). Leadership principles in bullet points. 2-3 complex projects. Check Amazon SDE internship guide on Apply /prepare.
Microsoft resume: Show breadth — multiple languages, cloud (Azure), open-source contributions. Clean code matters. Check Microsoft internship guide on Apply /prepare.
Startup resume: Show you can ship. Deployed projects > academic projects. GitHub activity > CGPA. Show you learn fast.

Common engineering resume mistakes
Don't list skills you can't answer: If you list 'Docker', expect 'What's the difference between an image and a container?' List only what you can defend.
Don't use 2 pages: Engineering freshers get 1 page. If it overflows, cut the weakest project or shorten descriptions.
Don't use fancy templates: Columns, colors, icons, photos — all break ATS parsing. Use simple single-column layout.
Don't include personal details: Age, gender, religion, marital status, photo, father's name — not required and can trigger bias.
Don't copy-paste bullet points from the internet: Recruiters have seen them all. Write your own from your actual experience.
Don't forget GitHub: If you list projects, make sure the GitHub repos are public with good READMEs.
CGPA on resume — how to handle it
If CGPA is 7.5+: List it proudly. 'CGPA: 8.2/10'. This is above most company cut-offs.
If CGPA is 6.5-7.5: List it. Most service companies have 6.5 cut-off. You're safe for TCS, Infosys, Wipro.
If CGPA is below 6.5: You can still list it (some companies have no cut-off) or omit it and let your projects speak. Product companies care more about skills than CGPA.
If CGPA is very low (below 6): Omit it. Focus on projects, skills, and achievements. Apply to startups and companies that don't filter by CGPA.
Format: Always write as 'X.XX/10' — Indian universities use 10-point scale. Don't convert to 4-point GPA.
