TCS Resume Format for Freshers: NQT Template 2026

TCS is India's largest IT employer and hires 50,000+ freshers annually. The resume screening is largely automated (ATS) + brief HR review.

TCS looks for: CGPA 6.5+ (most roles), basic programming skills (C/Java/Python), SQL knowledge, good communication, 1-2 academic projects, and consistency in academics.

TCS does NOT expect: Advanced DSA, system design, open-source contributions, or complex projects. They hire for trainability, not expertise. Keep your resume simple and clean.

The biggest mistake: Over-complicating your TCS resume with fancy templates, too many skills, or exaggerated projects. TCS values simplicity and honesty.

HEADER: Full name | Email | Phone | LinkedIn. Keep it one line. No photo, no age.

EDUCATION: This is the MOST important section for TCS. B.E./B.Tech in [branch] | [college] | [university] | CGPA: X.XX/10 | [year]. Also include 12th (HSC) and 10th (SSC) percentages — TCS checks academic consistency.

SKILLS: Keep it basic. Programming: C, Java, Python (any 2). Database: SQL, MySQL. Web: HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Tools: Git, Eclipse. Don't list advanced skills like Kubernetes or microservices — TCS doesn't expect them.

PROJECTS: 1-2 simple academic projects. Example: 'College Management System using Java and MySQL'. Keep descriptions short — 2 lines each. TCS project discussion is basic.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Paper presentation, college fest participation, NPTEL certification, sports. Shows you're well-rounded.

PERSONAL DETAILS (optional): Languages known, hobbies. TCS's old format asked for these. Include if you have space — some TCS HR interviewers still expect it.

Key difference: TCS is the only major company that still accepts 'Career Objective' and 'Personal Details' sections. Keep them for TCS, remove for product companies.

File name: 'YourName_TCS_Resume.pdf'. Not 'resume_final_v3.pdf'. Professionalism starts with the file name.

File size: Keep under 1MB. Don't add photos or graphics that bloat the file.

Make sure your resume matches your NQT application details — same college name, same CGPA, same skills. Inconsistencies get flagged.

TCS technical interview will reference your resume. Prepare for:

'Tell me about your project' — explain your project in 2 minutes: what it does, your role, tech stack, challenges.

'Why did you choose Java/Python?' — have a reason. 'Java is platform-independent and widely used in enterprise applications.'

'What database did you use and why?' — 'MySQL because it's open-source, reliable, and suitable for our scale.'

'What is [skill you listed]?' — if you list OOP, expect 'What are the 4 pillars of OOP?' Don't list skills you can't explain.

Don't list too many skills: TCS values depth over breadth. 3-4 solid skills are better than 15 shallow ones.

Don't exaggerate projects: TCS interviewers ask basic questions about your project. If you claim 'AI-powered' but can't explain the algorithm, you'll get caught.

Don't skip 10th and 12th marks: TCS checks academic consistency from 10th onwards. Include all three education levels.

Don't use multi-column templates: TCS's ATS (Workday) can't parse columns. Use single-column.

Don't forget the career objective: TCS is old-school. A simple career objective shows you understand their culture.

Don't exceed 1 page: TCS expects 1-page resumes. If it overflows, shorten project descriptions.
