Fresher Resumes

How to Build a Resume for Freshers: Step by Step Walkthrough

Build a resume for freshers step by step — every section from contact header to achievements, with before-and-after examples.

8 min readUpdated 2026-08-06

A step-by-step resume build for freshers — what goes in each section, in what order, and how to write it so recruiters read to the bottom.

Header and summary

Start with your name, phone, email, city, and links (LinkedIn, GitHub, portfolio). Keep it clean and readable — no photos in most Indian fresher resumes, and no decorative fonts.

Write a 3-line summary: who you are, your core skills, and what you are looking for. Example: Final-year B.Tech (CS) student with projects in React and Node.js, looking for an SDE internship. Recruiters scan this before anything else.

Skills section

Group skills by type: programming languages, frameworks, databases, tools, soft skills. List only skills you can explain in an interview — every keyword on the resume is fair game for the technical round.

Match the skills to the job description of your target role. If the JD wants SQL and you know SQL, it belongs here; do not add Java if you have never written it.

Projects section

For freshers, projects are the heart of the resume. Each entry: project name, one-line description, tech stack, and 2–3 bullets on what you did and what happened (deployed, tested, improved X by Y).

Lead with your strongest project and keep each to 3 lines. Interviewers will deep-dive whichever project is first — make it the one you know best.

Experience, education, certifications, achievements

Internships go above projects if you have them; otherwise projects lead. Education: degree, college, CGPA, and relevant coursework. Certifications: only role-relevant ones. Achievements: coding contest ranks, hackathon results, scholarships.

Close with the details recruiters verify: backlogs, gap years, and current status stated honestly — hidden gaps surface in HR and kill offers late.

Formatting rules that matter

One page for most freshers, standard section headings, consistent dates, and a PDF export. ATS systems should parse every word — no text boxes, no icons for core content, no tables with critical info.

Build it in a clean editor, review it against the JD, and export as PDF. Apply's resume builder handles the formatting and ATS-safe export while you focus on content.
