Google Apprenticeship Resume: Format & Tips

Google Apprenticeship resume guide — what Google looks for, section order, project bullets, and tips for Indian students applying to programs.

8 min readUpdated 2026-07-31

Google apprenticeship programs are a realistic entry point into Google for students. Here's how to structure a resume that survives Google's screening.

Which Google programs take student resumes

Google runs several student programs that accept resumes — STEP (Student Training in Engineering Program), apprenticeships in technical fields, and early-career roles for students. All start with a resume screened by both ATS and recruiters.

The screening is competitive: recruiters spend seconds on the first pass, so the resume must make your fundamentals, projects, and achievements visible in the first scroll.

Google apprenticeships in India are announced on the Google careers site with clear eligibility windows — watch the page and apply in the first week, as applications are rolling.

What Google looks for in a student resume

Evidence of engineering depth: 2–3 projects with real tech stacks, personal contribution, and a GitHub link with good READMEs.

DSA and coding signals: competitive programming ranks, LeetCode consistency, or open-source contributions — anything that proves problem-solving at scale.

Communication and initiative: hackathon wins, leadership roles, teaching code to juniors, or writing technical blog posts.

For apprenticeships specifically, demonstrating a willingness to learn and projects that show self-learning (certifications, personal builds) works better than purely academic performance.

Google apprenticeship resume format

Header: name, email, phone, city, LinkedIn, GitHub. One line, nothing else.

Education: college, degree, CGPA, expected graduation year. Include relevant coursework — DSA, DBMS, OS, Computer Networks.

Projects (lead with this): 3 projects, each with name, stack, 2–3 bullets, and a GitHub link. The first project should be the most complex.

Experience (if any): internships, open source, or part-time roles with 2–3 impact bullets.

Achievements: coding contest ranks, hackathons, certifications, awards. One line each.

Keep it to one page. Google recruiters read top-to-bottom and left-to-right — no columns, no icons, no photos.

Project bullets that work for Google

Use the pattern: built X with Y stack, and specifically did Z (auth, API design, scaling, testing) — then one real outcome if it exists.

Example: 'Built a campus food-ordering platform with React and Node.js; designed the REST API, implemented JWT auth, and deployed on a free tier. Handled 500+ order requests during fest week.'

Never invent metrics. Google interviews verify your projects deeply — a fake number is worse than no number.

If you have no internship, projects carry the resume. See the no-experience resume guide for the project-first structure.

Common mistakes on Google apprenticeship resumes

Using a decorative template — Google's ATS misreads multi-column layouts.

Listing 'Team player' and 'Hard worker' without evidence — replace soft-skills claims with proof.

No GitHub link — Google interviewers do check repositories.

Skipping the project depth — a weather app that just calls an API is weak; an app with auth, database, and deployment is strong.

Sending the same resume for every program — tailor keywords per program with /dashboard/generate.

How Apply helps for a Google apprenticeship resume

Build or upload your resume at /dashboard/generate and tailor it to the program description. Read the Google STEP resume guide at /prepare/google-step-resume for program-specific tips.

Then rehearse explaining your projects in a technical mock at /mock-interview — Google interviews start from your resume.
